This month we introduce one of our Trainee Accounting Technicians, Dan Ellard, based in our Exeter office.
What is your role at Thomas Westcott?
I assist in the preparation of year-end accounts, management accounts, tax returns and VAT returns for a range of clients. With the changes to quarterly reporting requirements coming soon, I have been assisting clients to become MTD complaint with their accounting systems and, all being well, I will soon be AAT-qualified.
How long have you worked here?
I joined the Exeter office in September 2017.
What do you like about working in the Exeter office?
I found it easy to immediately fit in, everyone in the office is very approachable, both on a professional and personal level and there is a great sense of teamwork here. With the central location, it’s great working in the heart of such a vibrant city.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I really enjoy music, so far this year I have seen live bands/festivals in Sheffield, Manchester and Plymouth. I also love sport, I’ll happily watch any sport and like to play football, cricket and golf, although my short game needs work!
If you were stranded on a desert island what three items would you take with you?
My IPod, I can’t be without my music, sun cream and a volleyball called Wilson to keep me company!
Do you have any hidden talents?
Once upon a time when I had some musical talent, I reached Grade 5 at the flute and Grade 2 on the keyboard, although don’t ask me to play now though!
What do you enjoy most about working at Thomas Westcott?
The work is interesting, varied, and often challenging, meaning I am learning all the time. There are great opportunities to try different types of work, meaning I can build my knowledge and expertise. I enjoy interacting with clients and seeing how their business operates, thankfully I am given plenty of opportunities to do that here.
