We couldn’t be prouder to be Honiton RFC’s main sponsor after their nail-biting 29-27 win in the RFU Senior Vase final played at Twickenham made them the toast of Devon!

For over 20 years now we have sponsored the Lacemen through highs and lows but this has to be up there as the club’s greatest achievement.

The match was a thriller, with Honiton leading 12-10 at half-time, then leading again late in the second half but, with just minutes to go, the Twickenham dream was fading as they trailed 27-22 to Yorkshire side Northallerton.

However, we're made of stern stuff in Devon and the Lacemen dug deep to find a way to score a late, late try that drew things level at 27-all, before Tom Steer stepped up to drill the match-winning conversion.

Cue unbridled celebrations that will live long in the memory!

The team showed so much grit to come back at the end of both the first and the second halves and earned victory through a determined defence when under attack combined with well-timed and much-deserved tries.

It really was a moment to savour to see the name of Thomas Westcott Chartered Accountants gracing the Honiton shirts at no-less venue than the home of English rugby.

As well as sponsoring the team for over two decades we also have another strong connection to the current team of champions, as player-coach Nathan Haney’s wife Anna is a Thomas Westcott staff member, working in our internal accounts department.

One of our favourite aspects of Honiton RFC is its commitment to young people and youth development. The club has a full complement of youth teams from age 7 to age 16 plus colts and senior teams.

So, the ethos of developing and training young people is an essential part of the club, just like Thomas Westcott with its emphasis on developing and training our own young people.

This is, in part, what attracted us to partner with Honiton RFC and to support them over such a long period. Both organisations believe in developing young people to grow through the ranks and be the successors for tomorrow as well as creating a team spirit - where individuals work together to achieve the outcome -  HRFC on the pitch and Thomas Westcott in providing a team approach of specialists able to support the full range of financial support needed by our clients.

The club gives all individuals in its various teams the opportunity to keep fit, form friendships and be part of their local community, just as we ensure our clients’ accounts and business activities are in tip top condition!

This is community support at its very best, and HRFC’s achievements will resonate throughout Devon and give the entire county a reason to celebrate.
