East Devon District Council (“EDDC”) have recently launched a new grant fund aimed specifically at businesses and organisations operating in their council area. They have called it their “Innovation & Resilience Fund”, and a grant of up to £50,000 per business or organisation is available, with a minimum application of just £2,500.

In addition, collaborative projects can apply for funding of up to £150,000. The total fund available is approximately £2M, so not insubstantial for one council area.

Eligible applicants must:

  • Have been trading before 1 January 2021
  • Primarily operate and trade within East Devon

Eligible projects could include the purchase of:

  • Equipment that will allow the business to diversify or create a new innovative product
  • Specialist training to allow the business to expand into new markets
  • Equipment that will enable the business to expand and create new higher paid jobs
  • Technologies that will allow the business to become carbon neutral or negative

When reviewing potential projects, at least one of the following will need to be achieved:

  • Employment: promote new higher wage employment or safeguard existing high value employment under threat
  • Diversify: allow the business to diversify, develop a new product or innovation, enter new markets or adapt to new market conditions or working practises
  • Green: enable significant carbon reductions, energy efficiencies or promote biodiversity
  • Inclusive: provides sustainable opportunities to low-income/disadvantaged individuals, local graduates or helps to alleviate poverty

Unusually, there is no requirement for projects to be match funded by applicants (i.e. typically an applicant would be asked to fund say 60% of a project, with the grant covering 40%). Having said that, priority will be given to match funded applications.

Expressions of interest must be submitted by 18 February 2022.
